Our Story

How we ended up doing this

We build and repair decks around Garden Grove because it's the kind of work where you can see exactly what you did once you're done, unlike a lot of trades where the finished product ends up hidden behind drywall. Most of what got us into this trade was fixing other people's shortcuts, decks that were built fast and cheap and started falling apart by year three. That's still a lot of what we get called out for.

The problem you're probably on this page with is a deck that's gotten spongy in one spot, a railing post that rocks when you grab it, or decking boards that have gone grey and started cupping at the edges. A rocking railing post usually means it was only screwed to the rim joist instead of bolted through it, which is why it works loose within a year or two. We check every post's actual connection before we touch the top rail, and rebuild the ones that were never anchored right in the first place.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

We're licensed and insured for deck construction, and we'll show you the paperwork before we start. If a ladder scratches your siding or a post hole nicks a sprinkler line, that's on us to fix, not you.

Permits Pulled Right

Garden Grove requires a permit for most raised decks, and skipping that step is a common reason decks get flagged during a home sale. We handle the permit application and stick around for the inspector.

Clean Job Site

Deck demo throws nails and screws everywhere, and those things find bare feet and lawnmower blades if they're left in the grass. We run a magnetic sweep of the yard at the end of every job.

Written Quotes

The quote lists the lumber grade, hardware type, and square footage, so you know what you're paying for before we start. No change orders that show up as a surprise on the final invoice.

Own Crew

Your job doesn't get handed off to a rotating list of subcontractors. The same guys who dig the footings are the ones setting the railing three weeks later.

Local to Orange County

A deck in Huntington Beach fights salt air and fog, a deck in Orange or Tustin bakes in dry heat most of the year. We build and finish differently depending on which side of the county your yard sits on.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about who does the work and how.

How long has this deck builder been in business?
Experience in deck construction and repair covers both new builds and fixing decks that other contractors put up incorrectly, which teaches fast what actually fails and why. Specific years in business can be confirmed with a direct call.
Is the crew in-house or subcontracted?
The same crew handles framing, decking, and railing installation from start to finish on most deck projects, rather than handing different phases to rotating subcontractors. That keeps one team accountable for how the finished deck holds together.
Can I see examples of past deck work?
Photos of completed deck installations, repairs, and railing work are available on request, and a site visit to a nearby completed project can sometimes be arranged. Seeing a deck in person after a year or two of weather exposure tells you more than a photo taken the day it was finished.
Why hire a local deck builder instead of a big remodeling company?
A local deck contractor knows which cities in Orange County require permits at what height, how the coastal marine layer affects wood decking differently than inland heat, and shows up in person rather than routing calls through a corporate office. That local knowledge affects material choice and footing depth, not just convenience.
Where is this deck builder based?
Deck construction and repair service is based in Garden Grove, CA, with jobs covering most of Orange County within roughly a 50-mile radius.
How far in advance do deck projects need to be booked?
Scheduling varies by season, with spring and early summer typically being the busiest months for new deck construction in Southern California. A direct call gives the most accurate current availability.
Is the job site cleaned up after a deck project?
Lumber scraps, old decking, packaging, and leftover hardware get hauled away at the end of a deck project, and a magnetic sweep for stray nails and screws is standard before the crew leaves. The yard should be usable again, not left with construction debris.
What happens if something gets damaged during construction, like a sprinkler line or fence?
Liability insurance covers accidental damage to sprinkler lines, fencing, siding, or landscaping that happens during deck construction. Any damage should be reported and addressed as part of the project, not left for the homeowner to fix separately.
Will a deck builder finish a project another contractor started?
Taking over a partially built or abandoned deck project is possible, but it starts with inspecting what's already been framed to check it meets code before building on top of it. Sometimes the existing footings or framing have to come out and get redone if they weren't done correctly the first time.
How can a homeowner tell if deck work is being done correctly while it's underway?
Footings should reach the required depth for the soil and get inspected before concrete is poured, ledger boards should be flashed and bolted rather than just nailed to the house, and hardware below grade should be rated for ground contact. Asking to see these steps, or asking for photos of the footings before they're covered, is a reasonable request on any deck project.
